Sharing is Caring!
In 2009, Le Quartier Français developed, with the help of a dietician, a highly nutritious muffin recipe. These muffins are crammed full of all the daily nutritional requirements that growing children need. We then started baking and delivering these muffins to a small local crèche every Friday.
Over the years that followed, the concept proved so popular that owing to the generous donations of guests and friends of Le Quartier Français, we were able to increase the supply of our healthy meals to over 50 children in two different pre-schools, five days a week.
In 2011, with the help of Dutch Isabelo supporters, a fundraising dinner was held in Holland. The money raised from this enabled us to then feed 100 pre-school children, five days a week.
Today we are serving nutritious lunch containing all food groups to 120 children across 3 schools. These 120 children’s meals are all prepared by the Le Quartier Francais team, who selflessly donate their time and expertise so that every cent donated is spent on the children. We have committed to doing this until the end of 2014. However, through future donations, we would like to continue doing this indefinitely.
Additionally, the fundraiser held in Holland was so successful, that we were able to diversify our efforts. Isabelo now funds the Kusasa Breakfast Club – which cooks meals for and feeds over 1000 children in two schools in Franschhoek. This started with porridge every weekday morning, and we were able to increase the nutritional value by adding an egg to their porridge 4 days of the week. We have committed to doing this until the end of 2015.
In 2013, Margot Janse, Executive Chef at Le Quartier, wanted to do more… She and a friend ran the Cape Town Marathon to raise additional funds. This money is going towards the upgrading of the two schools' kitchens in which the Kusasa Breakfast Club meals are cooked.
The Isabelo Sharing is Caring project has proven to be awe-inspiring, and has surpassed our expectations. We strive to continue and grow this initiative and, with continued support, have no doubt that it will change the lives of more children than we ever imagined possible.
