2010 Bastille Festival in FranschhoekIt’s almost time for the 2010 Bastille Festival and this year’s festival promises to be everything last year’s was and more. Taking place, in Franschhoek, on Saturday the 17th and Sunday the 18th of July 2010 the Bastille Festival is definitely one of the highlights of the Franschhoek Festival Calendar. Le Quartier Français, Bread & Wine and Môreson will all be in attendance and they’ll have the following delicious dishes and wines on offer. Le Quartier Français Bread & Wine Flatbread with a delicious topping (always excellent and a Franschhoek Festival favourite) Môreson They will be showcasing their Miss Molly range of wines – including the new Miss Molly Bubbly – which means that a percentage of each bottle sold will be donated to the South African Guide Dog Association for the Blind.

How far would you go?This weekend I will be up in Johannesburg to help look after some out of town visitors. They are here to watch the 2010 World Cup Final and, through no fault of ours, their reservations were misplaced by a Johannesburg Guest House. In fact they’re not Le Quartier Français guests but we recommended the Johannesburg Guest House in question; and sometimes to be successful in our line of work you have to go above and beyond the call of duty.
To ensure that their stay, in Johannesburg, is nothing short of exceptional we have rented a beautiful house and we’ve flown up a fantastic mini Le Quartier Français team. I’ve been included as an multi-functional member of this team and that means that I’ll definitely be involved in the housekeeping side of things. I foresee lots of washing, ironing and bed-making in my near future. Comments: 0
What does the TripAdvisor Trip Friends Feature mean for the hospitality industry? In a nutshell the TripAdvisor Trip Friends Feature allows travelers to tap into Facebook and find friends that can offer advice about a specific destination and what they should see, do and definitely avoid while they’re there. This feature means that, for us in the industry, TripAdvisor is now even more important and more relevant. Before this feature users (or TripAdvisor community members) were reading reviews by individuals who weren’t friends but who had personally experienced the destination, restaurant, hotel, wine farm and more that the user was looking to experience. Now imagine how powerful it would be if these people reviewing their experiences weren’t strangers. Imagine if the people advising you were your trusted friends.
CC attribution soylentgreen23 on Flickr That’s incredibly powerful and, as I mentioned before, it makes TripAdvisor reviews even more relevant to the individual. What this means is that, as a brand affected by TripAdvisor, you can no longer afford to bury your head in the sand.

The Le Quartier Français GM and Restaurant ManagerSome Le Quartier Français guests organised a Range Rover stretch limo to take them to the Holland vs. Uruguay Semifinal. Our General Manager and Restaurant Manager were invited to sit in the back and, as you can imagine, they couldn’t possibly pass up that opportunity.

Le Quartier Français has been nominated for a Virtuoso Best of the Best Award! We have been selected as a Most Socially Responsible, nominee for our Mrs. Ndaba initiative, in the fourth annual Virtuoso Best of the Best Awards. This is the second Best of the Best Awards we’ve been nominated for. In the inaugural Best of the Best awards, 4 years ago, we were lucky enough to win the Best Culinary Experience Category. We are very excited and humbled to be included in this year’s Best of the Best Awards Most Socially Responsible category. Our Mrs. Ndaba initiative is a project that has proven to be completely awe-inspiring. It has been amazing to witness, first hand, how many good and generous people there are in world who are all looking for sustainable ways to change the lives of those in need. Thank you to Mr and Mr Monday, Mr Tuesday, Meneer Wednesday, Mr and Mrs Thursday, Mr and Mrs Friday, Daf (who ran the 2010 Comrades Marathon for Mrs. Ndaba) and everyone else who has made it possible for us to feed 68 toddlers – everyday of the week – for the next year! The Best of the Best Awards ceremony, takes place on Wednesday the 18th of August at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. During this ceremony all the nominees, in their respective categories, and the 10 overall category winners will be celebrated. Comments: 0

Proudly South AfricanWho would have believed that Bafana Bafana would beat France 2 – 1? What an exceptional and exciting game! It was amazing to see how much spirit and life Bafana Bafana invested in their World Cup 2010 effort. Even in last night’s final match against France they put up a real fight, they did not go quietly and they reminded our country men and women what it means to be South African. We have never been prouder; thank you Bafana Bafana! If you need something to pick you up and motivate you for the remainder of the 2010 World Cup we suggest that you watch this Power Point presentation from the guys over at Homecoming Revolution.
